Megillat Esther

The illumination of this Scroll of Esther was commissioned by a private collector and was designed and rendered over a year long period. It was painted and gilded on manuscript vellum, using gouache, Japanese ink sticks, 23K gold leaf and shell gold.

Featured in the frontispiece is a free flowing narrative of the story of Purim with its cast of characters and also includes the blessings recited before the ritual reading of the Megillah.

A repeating floral design runs from beginning to end and each block of text is graced with an individual illumination incorporating symbols and legends associated with the story. The end piece contains a dedication citing the artist's and collector's names.
