image of the Ladder which appeared in Jacob's dream in the Torah
portion Vayetzei. In that dream, a stairway was set on the ground
and its top reached to the sky. In the moon and the night sky
appears the name Israel, the name given to Jacob by G-d. Inside
the ladder a poem by Jessie Sampter entitled Alone with Thee:
Each one of us alone with G-d; Behind the mask of face and deed;
Each wrestles with an angel.
